Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes. For most students, it's the first time they're living away from home and managing their own life. Not surprisingly, adapting to this new lifestyle can be challenging. The following four tips will make high school graduates better prepared for college life.

Goal setting

When setting goals, whether they're academic, career, or personal, re-member they should be attainable but not too easy, so that you really have to push yourself to achieve them, and feel rewarded when you do. Writing down your goals and breaking down each huge, long-term goal into smaller more practical ones can help make it feel more real, and writing out a plan for achieving it can give you a roadmap to success.

Interpersonal skills

At college, you will interact with fellow students, professors, librarians, and many others. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build relationships during this time, and get more out of them. If you feel that your interpersonal skills need some work, practice asking thoughtful questions and listening closely, develop your understanding by putting yourself in someone else's shoes, and enhance your self-confidence.

Studying

With fewer in-class hours and more on-your-own learning, you're required to really digest learning material rather than simply memorize facts. To be successful in college you'll need to learn how to integrate large amounts of information obtained through reading, do research, and write papers. Organization is the key, so if you are not someone who is naturally organized, set up your study schedule.

Budgeting

Managing money is a critical life skill, and for many, it is at college that they develop it for the first time. Start by estimating your financial balance. Then give high priority to the expenses on basic needs and determine how much money to set aside every month to cover those costs. Don't forget about savings…and the fun stuff(movies, dinners out), too.

Amy Jandrisevits knows the value of a good doll. "Dolls have a power we don't completely understand," she told The Today Show. It's a conclusion she came to while working as a pediatric oncology(儿科肿瘤学) social worker using dolls to help her young clients adapt to their changing medical situations. Many of the kids saw themselves in those dolls. But for the kids missing a limb or who had lost their hair, there were none they could relate to.

So, seven years ago, when a friend revealed that her child was suffering from appearance anxiety caused by a rare disease, Jandrisevits, now 49, knew what might help the youth through this potentially challenging period. "It's hard to tell a kid, 'You are perfect the way you are', and to build self-esteem that way, but never offer them anything that looks like them," she says.

Jandrisevits went about changing that. She crafted a doll by hand-using fabric, stitching, and markers—that resembled her friend's child and sent it off. After the friend posted a photo online of the happy child and doll, another woman asked Jandrisevits to make a doll that looked like her baby, who was missing a leg.

Word spread, and soon Jandrisevits was making dolls for children with scars, birthmarks, facial deformities(畸形), tracheotomies—in short, a doll that looked like them. She quit her job and started a nonprofit, A Doll Like Me.

Working out of her home in Milwaukee, from photos sent by parents or caregivers, it takes Jandrisevits roughly seven hours to craft each doll. A GoFundMe page helps her offset costs and allows her to donate her services. She hasn't charged for a doll since she began her nonprofit.

In all, she's made more than 400 dolls. The waiting list is long, but Jandrisevits is unbowed. As she explains on her GoFundMe page, "Every kid, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, medical issue, or body type, should look into the sweet face of a doll and see their own."

(1) What can we learn about Amy from the first two paragraphs? A. She used dolls to help the kids who missed a limb. B. She realized the value of a good doll to kids facing challenges. C. She thought it easy to make a kid realize their self-esteem. D. She handed out dolls for every kid with appearance anxiety.
(2) What made Amy decide to set up A Doll Like Me? A. The urgency of earning money. B. The support from GoFundMe. C. The suggestions of her friends. D. The desire to help disabled kids.
(3) Which of the following best explains "unbowed" underlined in the last paragraph? A. Unpractical. B. Undefeated. C. Surprised. D. Puzzled.
(4) What is the text mainly about? A. An experience of being a pediatric oncology social worker. B. A kid's dream to make favorite dolls by hand. C. Crafting dolls to help kids get through challenging periods. D. Setting a program to raise money for poor kids.

"Moon uncle who lives far away, cooks delicious sweet bread……"

Does this lullaby(摇篮曲)bring back the sweet memories of your childhood? Many more lullabies are sung to children in diverse languages and dialects in India. However, all this rich and intangible heritage is vanishing because of the neglect of native culture and the influence of popular culture.

The Lori Project is the first of its kind to collect and document lullabies across India. It's a crowd-sourced project started by four friends: Shubham, Adya, Nishita and Anurag in May 2020. The idea came to Shubham when he failed to find authentic and culturally rooted Iullabies for his niece.

The team aims to enable the children of future generations to connect with their culture through lullabies. Lullabies have vivid descriptions of man's connection with nature. They are also windows to study the fascinating aspects of society over generations.

Multiple kinds of researches have been carried out to document the cultural aspects of India. But their findings remain restricted to libraries.

The major activities of the project are outreach and collection of lullabies from varied regions. The team ask for recordings of lullabies sung by everyday people in far off cities and villages over Whatsapp or E-mail. Then they upload these recordings on their social media and Youtube channels over which the audience can cherish the delightful melodies of their childhood.

Crowd sourcing lullabies by the use of social media can enable the team to revolutionize the entire system of culture. By engaging the plural communities of India, the project looks forward to promoting diversity in Indian culture with the creative potential of the lullaby.
