Electronic sports such as "Fortnite" are vastly more popular than Olympic events such as dressage (花式骑术) or curling (冰壶). In fact, they are more popular than most mainstream sports. Only 28% of British boys aged 16-19 watch any traditional live sports; 57% play video games.

Stick-in-the-muds may complain that e-sports are not proper sports. Many parents, observing their bad-tempered teenagers sitting on the so fa all day twiddling their thumbs and shouting "Quick, pass me the shotgun!" at a screen, would agree. Yet video games are highly competitive, with professional leagues that play in crowded stadiums.

There are perhaps only 200 tennis stars in the world who can make a living from playing in tournaments. By contrast "League of Legends", a fantasy game played by teams of five, supports over 1,000 on good wages. Its World Championship final last year was watched by 44 million people.

Critics of e-sports offer moral objections, too. They are addictive, Prince Harry has called for "Fortnite" to be banned for this reason. They are violent. Surely, at a time of global disharmony, it is a bad idea to make simulated killing an Olympic sport. The Olympics aim to promote peace. Finally, video games are commercial. Nobody owns basketball; "League of Legends" is owned by Tencent, a Chinese megacorporation.

None of these arguments is very convincing. The idea that an activity, rather than a substance, can be addictive is controversial among doctors, as is the existence of a causal link between gaming and violence. And the idea that warlike sports have no place in the Olympics is hard to consist with history. Javelin-throwing (掷标枪) and wrestling were introduced in 708 BC. They are still there.

In the 2022 Beijing Olympics process, hand-kitting (手工编织的) Chinese knot, a symbol of unity and happiness in Chinese context, is loved by friends from other countries. It has a complex graceful curve, but it can be reduced to the simple two-dimensional line. It displays fantasy and wisdom of the ancient Chinese civilization. It has elegant appeal which comes from the basic tools of human life in the beginning years.

Preparation of Chinese knot, roughly divided into three categories: the basic knot, varying knot and combinatorial knot. Its knitting techniques, in addition to all the basic techniques, agree with a common principle of knitting and can be summarized as the basic techniques and combinations techniques. But the basic techniques use a single line, double line or lines to knitting, or change the use of the parallel thread (线) to separate thread so as to make colorful knot or bow section; and a combination of techniques use the extend of head and extended ear flap (耳帽), and combine various knot flexibly, complete pack of ever-changing knot ornaments (装饰).

To design a set of beautiful decorative knot, the most important thing is to determine what the knot will be used for. Accordingly, determine its size and shape, taking into account of the appropriate use of color matching and accessories. The shape, color and ornaments should suit each other. Do attach your own artistic beauty and deep emotion to it, which will be able to fully demonstrate the beauty of Chinese traditional art.

Long cultural heritage makes the Han ethnic Chinese knot techniques unique, purely cultural essence, rich in cultural heritage. Chinese knot not only has shape and color beauty, but also gain its name because of its meaning, such as endless knot, caisson knot (藻井结) and double the money knot, reflecting the ancient Chinese cultural beliefs and strong religious meanings. It represents the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty of good intentions.

The Covid-19 situation is still fluctuating. In order to sustain the satisfactory results of our anti-pandemic measures and keep the situation under control, our College has made the following arrangements for your safe return to the campus for the second semester of the academic year 2021-22. The opening of the College for the second semester of the academic year 2021-22 has been postponed to 14 February 2022.

Registering the date of your return to the campus

To ensure an orderly and safe return to the campus, all students, in principle, are required to make a staggered(错开的) return to UIC during the period of 12-14 February 2022. Starting from 2 February 2022, students are invited to log on MIS Survey (https://mis.uic.edu.cn/survey/login.jsp), selecting the item on "registration of returning students" to register their date of return. Students who fail to complete the registration will be unable to enter the College premises. If for any reason, students need to bring forth or postpone the date of their return to the College, please report this on MIS Survey. Student hostels will be opened as of 9 February.

Daily Health Report

During the winter holidays, students are required to submit their daily health report by logging on to MIS Survey (https://mis.uic.edu.cn/survey/login.jsp), proactively and factually reporting their health condition and their location or travel plans to the College. Students who fail to submit the required health reports for 14 consecutive days will be unable to enter the College premises.

Different requirements for students returning from areas of different risk-levels.

According to the directives of the local Pandemic Control and Prevention agency, we have different requirements for students returning from areas of different risk-levels. Students are asked to avoid going to high or medium risk areas or hot spots, with a heightened alert for the protection of their personal health. The following are guidelines for reporting your travel history 14 days prior to their return to the College:

After a careful study of the distribution of students in medium to high areas, the College will, without delay, reach out to students who fall into categories 4 to 6 on the above chart and will lose no time in contacting students in category 3 above regarding arrangements for returning to the campus.
