Reading Art: Art for Book Lovers is a celebration of an everyday object — the book, represented here in almost three hundred artworks from museums around the world. The image of the reader appears throughout history, in art made long before books as we now know them came into being. In artists' representations of books and reading, we see moments of shared humanity that go beyond culture and time.

In this "book of books," artworks are selected and arranged in a way that emphasizes these connections between different eras and cultures. We see scenes of children learning to read at home or at school, with the book as a focus for relations between the generations. Adults are portrayed (描绘)  alone in many settings and poses — absorbed in a volume, deep in thought or lost in a moment of leisure. These scenes may have been painted hundreds of years ago, but they record moments we can all relate to.

Books themselves may be used symbolically in paintings to demonstrate the intellect (才智), wealth or faith of the subject. Before the wide use of the printing press, books were treasured objects and could be works of art in their own right. More recently, as books have become inexpensive or even throwaway, artists have used them as the raw material for artworks — transforming covers, pages or even complete volumes into paintings and sculptures.

Continued developments in communication technologies were once believed to make the printed page outdated. From a 21st-century point of view, the printed book is certainly ancient, but it remains as interactive as any battery-powered e-reader. To serve its function, a book must be activated by a user: the cover opened, the pages parted, the contents reviewed, perhaps notes written down or words underlined. And in contrast to our increasingly networked lives where the information we consume is monitored and tracked, a printed book still offers the chance of a wholly private, "off-line" activity.

(1) Where is the text most probably taken from? A. An introduction to a book. B. An essay on the art of writing. C. A guidebook to a museum. D. A review of modern paintings.
(2) What are the selected artworks about? A. Wealth and intellect. B. Home and school. C. Books and reading. D. Work and leisure.
(3) What do the underlined words "relate to" in paragraph 2 mean? A. Understand. B. Paint. C. Seize. D. Transform.
(4) What does the author want to say by mentioning the e-reader? A. The printed book is not totally out of date. B. Technology has changed the way we read. C. Our lives in the 21st century are networked. D. People now rarely have the patience to read.

In 2013, Deegan was trying to take control of her life after winning the fight against drinking. She did quit, but she was having difficulty reconnecting with people. Even looking someone in the eyes proved to be difficult. "I was sort of like a shell of a person and just didn't really have many life skills or self-confidence," Deegan said.

However, baking was something that always brought her joy as a child. One day while helping out in the neighborhood, Deegan picked up a handheld mixer and started baking. "My life was just out of control, but baking is such a controlled thing, where if you take the right steps and follow the directions, you'll get a pretty exact result," she said.

Deegan started bringing her homemade baked cookies to people's homes, which helped her reconnect with people. "Feeding people is such a universal love language," she said. However, she was still trying to figure out how to find a career at 27 years old. She had no real work experience and she couldn't put 'quit drinking' on her resume.

Deegan's life shifted in 2015. Encouraged by her friends, she challenged herself to see if she could sell just one pie. She sold dozens! She began baking out of her tiny apartment and eventually launched an official business in 2017. She spent four years developing a pie crust cookie recipe, which has since become the bread and butter of her business. "People have been walking, running and lining up to get cookies, and it's just been so magical seeing that," she said.

When she needs more help, Deegan says she looks for anyone who is just excited to work, even if they don't have any experience. After her own struggle, she realized that the desire to work was better than having a certain skill set. And she became a second-chance employer, hiring women out of prison or the shelter system. "You just have to walk through the door and be ready, willing and able and excited to show up and work and you've got a job," Deegan told the reporter.

(1) What was Deegan mainly struggling with in 2013? A. Emotion management. B. Interpersonal relationship. C. Work-life balance. D. Alcohol addiction.
(2) What prepared Deegan for her bakery business? A. Working previously in the baking industry. B. Seeing people running to get cookies. C. Wanting desperately to gain total control. D. Offering baked food out of goodwill.
(3) According to paragraph 4 and 5, what is special about Deegan and her business? A. She achieved success through baking. B. She was ambitious about her business. C. She has an open-door employment policy. D. She only hired inexperienced workers.
(4) Which of the following best describes Deegan? A. Creative and smart. B. Persistent and receptive. C. Honest and optimistic. D. Kind and easy-going.

For centuries, human beings have dreamed of traveling into space, orbiting(围绕……运行) our little blue planet, and appreciating incredible views of sunrises and sunsets. And soon, it seems that our dream will finally come true, as US startup Orion Span announced on April 6 that it planned to launch the first hotel in space this year. It will be ready to welcome guests the following year.

The space hotel, Aurora Station, will orbit 320 kilometers above Earth, circling it every 90minutes. It's capable of housing two crew members and four guests. The crew members will likely be former NASA astronauts who worked on the International Space Station. However, there's a catch: Each, guest must pay at least $9.5 million (60 million yuan) for a 12-day stay at the hotel

Once aboard the Aurora Station, guests will find many exciting things to do. According to Orion Span, guests can enjoy the excitement of zero-gravity as they fly throughout the space hotel They can watch 16 sunrises and sunsets every day and view the northern and southern auroras (极光)through the many windows. They can take part in research experiments like growing food and even take it home as a souvenir. And they can stay in touch with their families and friends via a high-speed internet connection.

But most importantly, the trip will offer a real sense of what it's like to live in space. "The premise (前提) of Aurora Station is for guests to live, feel, and breathe what it's like to be an astronaut, "Frank Bunger, founder of Orion Span, told the Robb Report. "The food and drinks are freeze-dried products. It's not going to be five-star dining. Fire and gas don't work the same way in space as they do on Earth. "

To better prepare guests for space travel the company will require a health screening and provide a three-month training program that helps guests understand basic spaceflight, orbital mechanics(轨道力学) and life in the pressurized environment of space. Some may have doubts about the project, but the company even has plans to turn part of Aurora Station into private apartments. "Future Aurora owners can live in, visit, or sublease(转租) their space apartment, "Bunger said in a news release. "This is an exciting frontier and Orion Span is proud to pave the way."

(2) What can guests do on Aurora Station? A. View beautiful auroras. B. Fly outside the space hotel. C. Buy various souvenirs. D. Enjoy five-star meals.
(3) According to Bunger, what is the main purpose of Aurora Station? A. To help people learn more about space. B. To offer comfortable space travel experiences. C. To provide real experiences of living in space. D. To prepare people for future space exploration.
(4) What can be inferred about Aurora Station from the last paragraph? A. It's ready for guests to book their first trip. B. Few people are optimistic about its future. C. Its guests must have a basic knowledge of space travel D. Private apartments are the most popular choice among its guests.
