Finding a mask which offers you a high protection level is crucial to filtering(过滤) out any particles for a long time. However, after a few hours, the mask becomes contaminated(污染) by the particles and you need to replace it with a new one. See, you have to get a mask offering active protection in addition to passive filtration.

The first rule of a mask offering you any kind of protection is that it needs to fit well. The mask also needs to be comfortable and allow you to breathe easily for you to be able to keep it on for as many hours as you need.

During long hours of wear, food and dirt may remain on the inside of your mask. All the hours spent in a place with less-than-ideal conditions for human health are wonderful news for bacteria that thrive on food particles and muck left behind on the inside of your mask. This growth opportunity for bacteria could not just be dangerous but could also cause a bad smell. So you'd better have a kind that kills off the smell-causing bacteria, leaving your mask smelling fresh.

You should look for cloth masks that have multiple layers of breathable fabric that is tightly woven, include a robust(结实的) nose wire for you to adjust the mask to the shape of your face and prevent air escaping from around your nose, do not have gaps around the nose or sides of the face and that block out the light if you hold the mask up to a bright light source. It is good for the mask to come with your choice of either head straps or ear straps, both adjustable. It is also good if the mask has different sizes ranging from kids to adults to ensure everyone stays protected.

I have lived in rural America for nine years, first in Michigan, where I got my PhD; then in central Illinois and now in Indiana, where I am a professor. In a place where most people have lived the whole of their lives, I feel like a stranger. There are few things I enjoy more than complaining about my geographic isolation. I'm a vegetarian, so there's nowhere to go for a nice dinner that isn't 50 miles away. I'm black, so there's nowhere to get my hair done that doesn't involve another 50-miled drive. And the closest major airport is two hours away.

I recite these gripes(牢骚)to my friends. We all have grand ideas about what life would be like if only we did that, or lived there. And there's this; I really don't intend to change most of the things I complain about. Griping is seductiye on those days when happiness requires too much energy. Bur it also makes me lose sight of the fact that I was born and grew up in Nebraska and have lived most of my life in one of the plains states. When I go to the coasts, I am struck by how unappealing big-city living can be.

While I may not love where I live, there are plenty of people who are proud to call this place home. At a party with colleagues, I was going on about everything I couldn't stand in our town when I noticed that they were silent and shifting uncomfortably. That moment forced a change in me. Complaining may offer relief, but so does acceptance. There is no perfect life. By focusing on gripes, I risk missing out on precious moments of appreciation. When I get home, I stand on my balcony, look into the night sky and see the stars. I know that I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

It's not easy to offer a short version of all that attracts travelers to Latin America, but there are a few must-see spots that we have narrowed down for you.

Machu Picchu

Perched in the high mountains above the town of Cusco, the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu is a wonder of the world on par(齐名) with the pyramids of Egypt, and the Great Wall of China. The view from the top is beautiful whether it's clear or shrouded in fog, although there are fewer crowds during the wet season between December and April.

La Candelaria

La Candelaria in Colombia is a jewel of the old world set on the edges of the modern metropolis of Bogota. La Candelaria has jealously guarded its unique charm against the winds of change. Home to museums, cathedrals, cafes and restaurants, La Candelaria is easy to love and hard to leave.

Lago de Atitlan

Created by an enormous volcanic eruption 84,000 years ago and still ringed by active volcanos, Lago de Atitlan in Guatemala is the deepest lake in Central America, and it's almost too beautiful to believe: The crystal-blue waters below, volcanic backdrop beyond and stunning cloud formations above make for one truly unforgettable sight. Along the water's edge, there are plenty of cozy lake towns where you can have fun.

Iguazu Falls

As the second-largest waterfall in the world, Iguazu Falls is incredible. The 269-foot drop at Iguazu Falls marks the border between Brazil and Argentina. Brazilians and Argentinians can't help but make comparisons about who's got the better end of the waterfall. Brazilians, of course, say their side is the most beautiful, while Argentineans hotly disagree. It's up to you to decide, but you'll need to get a visa to see things from Brazil's point-of-view.

(1) When can visitors go to Machu Picchu to avoid the crowds? A. In February. B. In May. C. In July. D. In November.
(2) If you want to enjoy a lake tour, where should you go? A. Machu Picchu. B. La Candelaria. C. Lago de Atitlan. D. Iguazu Falls.
(3)  What can we learn about Iguazu Falls? A. It is the largest waterfall in the world. B. The part in Brazil is the best end of the waterfall. C. It lies somewhere between Brazil and Argentina. D. You don't need a visa if you're planning to see it in Brazil.
