Parents may think they're smart about where they store medicines, but their kids are smarter. Nearly 60,000 young children are rushed to the hospital every year after getting into medicines not meant for them, according to a new report from Safe Kids Worldwide.

The report finds little connection between what parents know about storing medicines safely and what they actually do. 9 out of 10 parents know that medicines should be stored up and away and out of reach and sight, but 7 out of 10 of them admit not doing that. They leave medicines out on kitchen counters, sinks and sofas, believing babies and toddlers (学步的儿童) aren't tall enough or strong enough to reach them. Unfortunately, they probably can. Children as young as a month have ended up in an emergency department because they have been poisoned by getting into a medicine that was left within reach.

Most poisonings related to medicines — particularly among babies and toddlers — occur within their home. Kids develop rapidly and they want to explore their environment. At certain ages they have a lot of activities using their hands and mouths, and so it's very common for them to explore their environment and then try to taste what they find.

The new Safe Kids Worldwide report includes a survey of 2,000 parents with children under age 6. While the number of children visiting an emergency department for accidental poisonings has declined since the 2010 maximum, the decline has slowed in recent years.

Prescription and over-the-counter medicines cause the most severe poisonings, but vitamins and supplements (补给品)can also cause problems. There are steps families can take to lower the risk for an accidental medicine poisoning.

It comes in waves. These are not calming waves, with their consisten t slapping of the shore, and seafoam coasting over the rocks and sand. These are whipping waves, ones that crush sandcastles and soak the beach in its toxic waters.

It's that feeling of embarrassment, sitting in class and tunneling down through everything you've ever done wrong before—on your anxious bench—wondering when someone will make a time machine. Maybe those thoughts consist of something embarrassing you said as a kid. Or that one time someone caught you dancing in a public bathroom. But what about the other way around? Do you look back and laugh at them and their actions? Do you even remember that or is it just a side detail in your mind?

All of these things re late to"respectable manners", disciplining your actions, and dulling happiness. It doesn't focus or highlight growth. Instead, it tears down joy allowing for self-ridicule. If you allow growth and happiness for those other people, why don't you deserve it for yourself?

Embarrassment is a lighter shade of shame—a shame formed from the perception of others and what opinions they might have. It all comes down to society:the boiling po t of expectations placed upon us. The perfection—an expectation that seems to grow with each year that passes—riddles its waters. But does it matter that much? Should we dull happiness when it's a mo ment of minor importance? Then we're left to question what we should be embarrassed about, what embarrassment is, and why it happens.

Embarrassment and happiness don't work together;they are the opposites of each other. Unfortunately,we can't choose our emotions, but we can choose how we live and how we think of others. Thinking back on embarrassing memories, how many of them are of other people? Probably few to none. It's the same way for everyone else. We are all living our own little lives. No one else can remember that embarrassing moment you dwell on every night, so why should you?

(1) What's the function of paragraph 1? A. To describe a natural phenomenon. B. To picture embarrassment in waves. C. To introduce the topic with a vivid figure of speech. D. To launch a debate against the feeling of embarrassment.
(2) Which of the following is basically to blame for people's constant embarrassment? A. Unrealistic time machine. B. Demanding social expectations. C. A face-saving sense of self-discipline. D. Top priority on growth and happiness.
(3) What can be learned from the passage about embarrassment? A. It is opposed to happiness. B. It can be controlled out of question. C. It is seen as slightly shameful. D. It must be remembered by other people.
(4) Which of the following sentences agrees with the author's opinion? A. Awkwardness is a stepping stone. B. Joy flowers when embarrassment fades. C. Embrace embarrassment, and enhance growth. D. In the dance of life, awkward moments make the music.

As artificial intelligence(AI) systems become more advanced, we can expect them to be used more often in the world of human medicine and healthcare. AI is designed to imitate(模仿) the human brain in decision making and learning, so with the computing power to learn tasks in days or even hours, it is possible to create medical AIs that rapidly outperform doctors in certain tasks.

Data plays a hugely important role in helping AI systems learn about human medicine. AI systems are trained on large data sets gathered from real-life cases. Providing detailed patient information in quantities is a crucial factor for their success.

One of the most important areas for influencing global health is in the field of epidemiology(流行病学Predicting disease outbreaks can save millions of lives by having resources ready should the worst happen. Startup AIME has successfully combined public health data with machine learning and AI to create a prediction engine capable of anticipating epidemics months in advance with great accuracy.

Another field where medical AIs are making rapid advances is in diagnostics(诊断学). Doctors base a lot of decisions on information from X-ray, CT and MRI images. Speeding up diagnoses from patient scans can rapidly improve patient care and outcomes. Computer vision AIs use pattern recognition to work through these images with incredible speed and accuracy. They have been able to outperform junior doctors and even senior specialists in some tests.

Cardiologist(心脏科医生)Rima Arnaout developed an AI that beat human experts at correctly interpreting echocardiograms(超声心动图)by 92 percent to 79 percent. She said that despite the result there is no prospect of AI replacing human doctors any time soon. "As cardiologists, we read the images and then go to see the patient," she said. "So we're both reading images and practicing medicine. I don't think that the second piece will be taken over so quickly. "

The acceptance of AI in medicine will continue to gather pace in the future as it becomes more widespread.

(1) What played a big role in helping AI systems know of human medicine? A. Certain tasks. B. Large data. C. The skill to imitate. D. The increasing demand.
(2) Why is Startup AIME mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To illustrate predicting disease is possible. B. To call on doctors to focus on public health data. C. To prove it's a successful company in global health. D. To let readers realize the importance of early success.
(3) What do we know about computer vision AIs? A. They do better than doctors in some tests. B. They speed up diagnoses from patient scans. C. They can rapidly improve patients' conditions. D. They analyze information from X-ray, CT and MRI images.
(4) What do Rima Arnaout's words in paragraph 5 imply? A. AIs are not so smart as human doctors. B. It's not easy for AIs to take the place of human doctors. C. A cooperation between AIs and human doctors is a must. D. Human doctors are playing a big role in practicing medicine.
