Scientists say a new kind of robot can create baby robots. This is science fiction becoming science fact. The scientists in the US created the world's first "living" robots,called Xenobots. They are from the stem cells (干细胞)of an African frog. Xenobots are made up of about 3,000 cells. During an experiment,the researchers found a very interesting thing. They put enough Xenobots in a petri dish,and they would gather ( 聚 集 )together. Finally,there were some new Xenobots,and they would become exactly the same as the mother Xenobots after a few days. Scientists said the robots can reproduce(再生)because they have a special shape.
Researchers tested billions of body shapes. The result was a C﹣shaped robot. The inside "C" became the Xenobot's mouth. It gathered small cells in its mouth. These cells became a new "baby" Xenobot.
Xenobots are not what we imagine robots to be. Scientists say they are technically robots. They are a machine﹣animal hybrid. They are "a completely new life﹣form".
Xenobots are very early technology. However,they're helpful in many fields such as science, medicine and the environment. We can use them to repair the damage to our organs (器官), attack micro﹣plastics in the ocean and so on. Although Xenobots can play an important role in our future life,some people are still worried about robots that can reproduce.
