When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard(果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.

One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village, "Who are they?" I asked. "They are good men from our government," my grandma replied

Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.

One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn't have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project(水利工程) was completed a policy(政策) was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.

Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside.

Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city, However, we should not forget our hometowns where we are from.

Bicycles have long been a kind of transport in China. In the past, only a small group of people thought cycling a sport. Now more and more people discover the joy of it.

____ Riders share their favourite routes and health tips about cycling on some apps like Xiaohongshu or Sina Weibo. On Xiaohongshu, there are more than 2.5 million posts (帖子) about cycling, and on Weibo, the topic about cycling has been viewed more than 700 million times. A bicycle company says the sales in one of its stores rose 20% to 30%, compared to the same period a year earlier. Cycling activities are also welcomed. According to the Chinese Cycling Association, at least 20 million people have joined in the sport.

For people who have begun cycling, the sport seems to provide a good way to run away from the busy city life. It also gives them a stronger sense of being part of the natural environment. Though the sport cycling sometimes costs a lot, many cyclists think spending money on their own bodies is more valuable than on other items. More people take part in cycling as cities in China are also planning to build more cycle-only lanes (车道). Several years ago, Beijing started building the city's first cycle-only lane. Since its opening, the lane has seen a larger daily traffic flow. Such lanes are also being built in some other cities.

Ten years ago, many people thought that the age of physical books was coming to an end. The objects that had been the companions (伙伴) of millions of readers for hundreds of years were about to disappear. Soon, we'd all be reading on little electronic screens and laughing at the memory of places called "libraries" and "bookshops".

But it seems not true about the idea of the death of the physical books. At least in the UK, as The Guardian noted, sales of e-books are falling while sales of physical books are rising. More surprisingly, it's young people who are buying the most physical books. More than 60 percent of 16-to-24-year-olds preferred print books to e-books. The most popular reason given was:"I like to hold the product."

Books become very personal objects to lovers of reading. It often starts with the way they get them. Many buyers of books like to write down their names on the inside cover when they've bought one. And we carry books around with us everywhere.

If there's a mark made on the pages from coffee or food, it doesn't matter. These accidents make the book—our book—even more personal. It's as if readers of physical books make friends with them.

Of course, some could say that the devices(设备) on which people read e-books, like Kindles and iPads are also objects that we like. But it isn't quite the same. A Kindle can hold as many pieces of writing as a whole library. But a story we remember from our time turning its pages in our favourite armchair enters our memory forever.

Physical books are as valuable to some readers as photographs of family members.

This "friendship" people develop with books isn't just about feelings. Research has shown that readers remember more information read from physical books than electronic ones.

However, there's no doubt e-books are here to stay. They aren't simply a "here today, gone tomorrow" thing. But it's also certain that physical books, which have been in production since the fifteenth century, are here to stay, too.

(1) The writer probably agrees that ____. A. physical books will be no longer made soon B. lovers of physical books are mostly old people C. sales of e-books and print books are both rising D. physical books are making a comeback in the UK
(2) What can we know about physical books? A. Physical books are sure to get more and more popular. B. People develop lasting friendships by reading physical books. C. The readers keep more information in mind with physical books. D. Young people prefer physical books with development of technology.
(3) What's the writer's main purpose in writing this passage? A. To explain why physical books will not disappear soon. B. To suggest that readers read more physical books than e-books. C. To show that people have different kinds of reading preferences. D. To discuss what makes e-books become the companions of readers.

Why are you study habits different from those of your friends? Why do you seem to learn faster in some classes while more slowly in others? One reason you may not know is that people have different types. Scientists say there are three different learning types: Visual(视觉型), Auditory(听觉型), and Kinesthetic (动觉型).

Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs(图表), and videos, you are probably a visual learner. You're not good at copying down what the teacher says in class. Never mind. You can draw graphs or pictures instead, if you find that works better for you.

Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to easily remember things by hearing them, then you are probably an auditory learner. You must listen carefully while the teacher is speaking because it's the easiest way for you to learn . Sometimes you may find that taking notes tops you from listening carefully. After class, you can write down what you remember or borrow your friend's notes to copy.

Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands, you are probably a kinesthetic learner. Taking notes by writing can make you pay close attention to information as you receive it. Of course, you can learn best by making full use of labs or other class activities.

Hope you learn better by knowing what your personal learning type is.
