NEVER STOP WALKING

When Justin was 7, he suffered from a disease that led to problems with the development of his back. Over the years, the little boy had gone through a total of five corrective surgeries. Justin could no longer walk and was limited to a wheelchair. But this did not stop him from living a normal life thanks to his mother' S love and others' help.

After entering high school, Justin got interested in playing the trumpet (小号) and joined the school's band. He served as one of the band's trumpeters and developed a strong friendship with his partner Tom. As Thanksgiving Day approached, the band intended to perform in the Thanksgiving Day Parade and every member had the chance to join in, including Justin. However, there was one obvious problem. Justin could not control his wheelchair and play the trumpet at the same time. The band director put forward an idea of one student pushing Justin during his marches. Tom immediately volunteered even though it meant he had to give up the opportunity to play his own instrument during the parade."I do it just to make sure Justin knows that he always has a place in the band, and he always will," Tom said to their director secretly. From then on, the two practiced together, one playing the instrument and the other pushing the wheelchair with the rhythm of the music.

To help Justin, Tom sacrificed (牺牲) far beyond expectation. Apart from losing the chance to perform, he needed to spare more time to take care of Justin and even missed his football training several times. All of these were seen by Justin and the burden of guilt weighed heavily on his mind."I can't meet my own needs at the sacrifice of Tom's chance. It is time to find a solution." Justin thought to himself as his mother pushed him on the way home. His mother lowered her head and said,"Justin, play me your new tune." Justin took out his trumpet and was about to play when an excellent idea came to him.

As a country music song goes, "She's a wild one with an angel's face. " That is my younger sister, Lulu. When I think of her, I think of trying to tame a wild horse.

I had my first face-off with Lulu when she was about five. It was a freezing winter afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut. Mum and Dad were at work. Babysitting Lulu at home, I decided that it would be the perfect time to introduce Lulu to the piano as I was in the learning process myself. Excited about working together — with her brown curls, round eyes, and China doll face, Lulu was desperately cute – I put her on the piano bench, on top of some comfortable pillows. I then demonstrated how to play a single note with a single finger, and asked her to do the same. A small request, but Lulu refused, preferring instead to smash at many notes at the same time with two open palms. When I asked her to stop, she smashed harder and faster. When I tried to pull her away from the piano, she began yelling, crying, and kicking angrily.

Fifteen minutes later, she was still yelling, crying, and kicking, and I had had it! Avoiding her blows, I dragged the screaming demon (恶魔) to our back door, and threw it open. The wind chill was six degrees below zero, and my own face hurt from just a few seconds' exposure to the icy air.

But one day, he happened to pass a shop in the neighboring town and saw a number of diamond rings displayed in the window. He stopped fascinated (被吸引住的), and pressed his face against the glass eagerly to see if any prices were marked upon them. Imagine his surprise when he saw upon the largest one8 - a tag (标签)marked $4. 75. He looked again to see if he had made a mistake. Perhaps it was $475. But no, he knew enough about figures to see that he was right the first time.

He went home as fast as he could, and ran up into his bedroom. Then, he opened his "bank" and counted its contents. "Three dollars and twenty-two cents!" he cried. "I'll have that ring before another week. " Hiram worked early and late for the next few days. He caught more shrimps than he had ever caught in the same length of time, and sold them readily.

Last night, my partner John and I went to the levees (堤岸) where I was relearning how to run. He supported on his bike and I went as fast or as slow as my old legs wanted to take me. John was holding his hand. John told the man, "We are going to come back this way. If you are still here, we will check on you." The man said he was fine but he was going to stay down for a bit. He was on the ground at the bottom of the levee and off a walkway that backed up into other people's homes. We ran on for 10-15 minutes or so and turned around.

John rode ahead to see if he was still there. When I got to the spot, there was John and the man. The man didn't look fine — he was stumbling (蹒跚而行) around and seemed lost.

The man in the meantime tried to climb up the levee and fell again and as he sat there, I walked down. I said, "Hi, my name is Mia, what's your name?" He laughed and looked at me. I said light-heartedly, "I am relearning how to run. I didn't realize it was so difficult." He said, "Oh my son and I run too — yeah it's not always easy."

It was starting to get dark. Turns out the man's name was John also. I said, "Shall we walk together, John?" He said, "Okay." He didn't want me to grab his hand or arm to help him, so I said, "I'll just stand by you if that is okay." "That's okay," he said.

We walked down the levee together with John riding behind. Through our walk he swerved (急转弯) from either side of the levee — I stayed calm and moved to either side casually trying not to look like I was blocking.
