Nowadays, people in China are increasingly interested in celebrating foreign festival, especially those western festivals.

A survey conducted recently by Sina. Com showed that among the 18, 222 people surveyed 63. 9% said celebrating Christmas is just another way of recreation, nothing serious while 17. 85% surveyed considered the festival as a fashion act, showing they were not "out". These two parts clearly indicate the general opinion of the young. 10. 45 percent people involved said the celebration of a religious western festival with so much enthusiasm is absolutely ridiculous pursuit of foreign goodness. Only 7. 8% of people define Christmas as a kind of festival colonization(殖民).

The arising of celebrating foreign festivals clearly has something to do with the advancement of China's economy. In my opinion of view, Christmas and other festivals celebrated in China have difference from the origin. They have lost their religious background and turned into a big occasion to have fun and enjoy life. Shop owners' pockets are filled, the public's hunger for happiness is filled, and that is enough. Foreign festivals in China are more like carnivals giving people pleasure and enjoyment.

The crisis(危机) of traditional Chinese festivals that are losing their attraction may be linked to the culture tradition and background of the festivals. Most Chinese festival culture is related more or less to real life.

But the western culture shows much of romance. Some festivals have their religious background while others have much to do with culture and people. At this point, food seems to be too plain. Flowers and chocolates are more welcomed.

Foreign festivals in China today are celebrated for fun. They give people opportunities to relax and to show appreciation and gratefulness. The acceptance of foreign festivals generally depends on the openness of the public, the familiarity with the western culture, and most importantly, on people's economic status.

(1) From the survey we know that among the people surveyed _________. A. Most think celebrating foreign festivals is ridiculous B. Many fear that traditional Chinese festivals will disappear soon C. Some think that celebrating foreign festivals is a sign of foreign goodness chasing D. half think celebrating foreign festivals makes people not go out of faction
(2) The writer think that foreign festivals celebrated in China ________. A. have lost their religious background B. are the same as those celebrated in the west C. can give more fun than traditional Chinese festivals D. may reduce the hunger of public people
(3) What is the main difference between foreign festivals and traditional Chinese ones? A. Foreign festivals can make Chinese shop owners' pockets full quickly B. The food at foreign festivals is too simple C. Chinese festivals always have something to do with culture D. Foreign festivals are romantic while traditional Chinese ones are connected with reality
(4) Which of the following may NOT be the reason why so many people accept foreign festivals? A. People can relax themselves . B. People can show their thanks to others C. Foreign festivals have longer histories than Chinese ones D. People have known more about the western culture.

Water poisoning is caused by too much consumption of water during a short period of time. Water in and of itself is not poisonous by any means, but rapid intake of a large quantity of water can break the careful balance of sodium(钠)in the body fluids(体液). This contributes to a swelling of the cells, often in the central nervous system, including the brain.

When the cells can no longer bear the pressure, they can begin to die. This is indicated in serious forms of water poisoning. Symptoms of this condition include vomiting, headache and unresponsiveness. When the sodium in the blood falls to dangerous levels, brain damage and possibly death may occur.

What is a fatal(致命的)amount of water can vary from person to person, depending on one's state of health, his or her physical activity at the time, the temperature and the amount of time in which the person consumes the water. For some, a one-time consumption of three liters can prove deadly. Although the person consuming the water may lose a lot of fluid during heavy labor or exercise, the electrolytes(电解质)are not replaced fast enough to avoid water poisoning.

Those particularly at risk for water poisoning are athletes engaged in long distance running like a marathon. Due to the need to replace large quantities of lost fluid, runners must drink a lot of water. This can lead to poisoning, so runners must replace their fluids with sports drinks that have added electrolytes. Other factors that contribute to water poisoning include activities that stimulate heavy sweating. The person working under extreme heat or intense humidity(湿气)must be careful when consuming water in order to maintain electrolyte balance. Mental diseases can also lead to water poisoning. Psychogenic polydipsia is a condition in which the affected person feels a need to drink a lot of water for unknown reasons.

(1) What harm does water poisoning bring? A. It can affect brain function. B. It disturbs the balance of sodium C. It causes a drop in blood pressure. D. It tends to make its victims nervous.
(2) What can we know about proper amount of water to drink? A. Three liters per day is deadly. B. No single rule fits everyone. C. It doesn't bother healthy people. D. Physical activity is its decisive factor.
(3) Who would probably fall victim to water poisoning? A. A patient suffering from stomachache. B. A laborer working with heavy sweating C. An athlete fond of drinking sports drinks. D. A teenager doing appropriate exercise daily.
(4) What might be discussed in the paragraph that follows? A. What has been found about sports drinks. B. What else contributes to water poisoning. C. What are the symptoms of water poisoning. D. What can be done to avoid water poisoning.

A nightmare plot turned into a miracle-like rescue in Colorado on Sunday. Three children aged 4 to 11 years old were playing on the icy pond at The Addison at Cherry Creek apartments. Suddenly they fell in and were sinking in the freezing water. Dusti Talavera, who lives at the apartment complex, was looking out her window when she saw the kids fall in. Talavera, 23, said she did not hesitate to put on her shoes and rush to the pond, which is 15 feet deep.

"Before I realized it, I was on the pond pulling the two kids out, and that was when I fell in the pond for the third kid," Talavera said during a press conference on Monday. Two of the kids were saved and Talavera began to pull a 6-year-old up to the surface, but was struggling. That was when a 16-year-old male, identified as the cousin of the 6-year-old, jumped in to help.

As deputies (警官) rushed to the scene, they heard that people were out of the pond, but one was not breathing. Deputy David Rodriguez immediately began chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, CBS Denver reports. Two other deputies, Blaine Moulton and Justin Dillard, also assisted. She was rushed to Children's Hospital and was breathing and had a pulse.
