A young Los Angeles actor in need of a second job to pay his bills has come up with a brilliant way to supplement his income—people walking.

Chuck McCarthy originally considered becoming a dog walker to earn some extra cash, but soon realised that the job required more than walking dogs on a leash. However, walking people didn't require much when they were out on walks. Chuck realised there was money to be made if he walked people around Los Angeles instead.

It might sound like a joke, but The People Walker, as he calls himself, is very serious about his new job. For $7 per mile, he offers to walk with clients around L. A. , listening to their problems or simply making conversations and offering them a sense of security. At 6-feet, 2-inches, and sporting a bulky figure and bushy beard, Chuck doesn't look like the kind of guy you'd want to mess with.

Chuck's services are aimed at people who need a motivational boost to go walking, those who don't feel safe walking alone in some areas, and those who are afraid that people might see them walking by themselves and think that they have no friends. "I wear my The People Walker shirt upon request and on the first walk with a new client, so they can be 100% sure it's me, " McCarthy says. However, he admits some people are a bit uncomfortable with this policy, as they don't necessarily want everyone to know that they're being walked.

So far, Chuck McCarthy has already had another five people walkers employed, covering various areas, like downtown L. A. , Hollywood, Eagle Rock, or Fairfax. Once he posted signs around the city, his phone started ringing and clients began rolling in. And with all the free publicity he has been getting in the press lately, more requests are coming.

While he hopes that his acting career will pick up soon, in the meantime Chuck is very happy with his people walking business. After all, it's literally a walk in the park and it pays the bills.

Stan Lee, cofounder of the Marvel Universe (漫威宇宙) and cocreator of many of its most popular superheroes, died at the age of 95.

Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York in 1922. As a son of workingclass Jewish immigrants from Romania, times were hard and he lived with his family in a shabby singlebedroom apartment. After graduating from high school at 16, Lieber landed a job as an assistant at Timely Comics. By the early 1940s, he was a temporary editor for the company. It was at this time that he began using his pen name—Stan Lee. In 1947, two years after returning from serving for the U. S. Army, Lee married his wife, Joan. To compete against DC Comics, Lee was given the task of creating their own group of super heroes. In 1961, Timely Comics changed its name into Marvel Comics after Atlas Comics, and that November saw the debut (首次亮相) of the Fantastic Four. Lee's later famous and lasting creations of comicbook superheroes included SpiderMan, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and the XMen.

Over the course of his career, Lee was an icon of Marvel Comics. As a writer and editor and, at various points both the publisher and vice president of Marvel Comics, Lee not only introduced interesting characters to the industry but changed the way that comic books came together. It feels like every time my mother and I start to have a conversation, it turns into an argument. We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, my mother will push the conversation into World War 3. She'll talk about my lack of a bright future because I don't plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment, I don't want to do any job related to science, either. In fact, when I was pushed to say that I planned to major(主修) in English and communications, she nearly had a heart attack.

"Why can't you be like my co-worker's son?" she bemoans all the time. Her co-worker's son received a four-year scholarship and is now earning 70,000 dollars a year as an engineer. I don't know what to answer except that I simply can't be like Mr. Perfect as I've called the unnamed co-worker's son. I can't be like him. I'm the type of person who loves to help out in the community, write until the sun goes down, and most of all, wants to achieve a career because I love it, not because of fame(名声) or salary.

I understand why my mother is worried about my future major. I've seen my mother struggle to raise me on her small salary and work long hours. She leaves the house around 6:30 a.m. and usually comes home around 5 p.m. or even 6 p.m. However, I want her to know that by becoming a doctor, it doesn't mean I'll be successful. I'd rather follow my dreams and create my own future.

Have you ever felt the desire to move and experience another beautiful part of the country? This could be the perfect career change for you.

The National Trust in England is looking for someone to work as a ranger(护林员) on the Fame Islands, one of Britain's oldest nature reserves located just off the North umber land coast.

For $22,668 a year, the successful applicant will be required to look after the local wildlife, including the 200 seal pups which are born on the islands each year and 37,000 pairs of puffins.

The ranger will get the chance to work in some of the nation's most attractive places and spaces—impressive sunrises a one-minute ride and one of England's largest seal colonies on his doorstep. But like every job, it doesn't come without a downside. Apart from avoiding the dive-bombing Arctic terns (燕鸥), there is no running water on the island and there will be severe storms to fight with during the spring.

Along with a love of nature and the outdoors, the National Trust is looking for "an excellent team player" who has experience in conservation work. This job isn't the normal 9 to 5, so being good at PowerPoint isn't a must. With 50,000 annual visitors every year, you really need to be able to get on with people and show them how they can participate to help nature.
