Once called "the bridge that couldn't be built," today it is one the seven wonders of the modern world. This magnificent span, perhaps San Francisco's most famous landmark, opened in 1937 after a four-year struggle against non-stop winds, fog, rock and treacherous tides.

The world-famous Golden Gate Bridge is easily recognized by its International Orange color. The bridge was built at a cost of $35 million in principal and $39 million in interest and 11 workers' lives. The bridge, with its twin towers reaching skyward 746 feet, was once taller than any building in San Francisco. It took more than 10 years to make a plan due to powerful opposition, but only four years in actual construction, the Golden Gate Bridge brought the communities of San Francisco and Marin counties closer together.

Pedestrians (行人) including wheelchair users and bicyclists can go on the sidewalks of the bridge during daylight hours but skateboards and roller skates are not permitted.

If you can't visit the bridge in person, do the virtual bridge walk and don't forget to check out the view from the top of the south tower.

If interested in biking across the bridge, the Presidio offers bike rentals and electric bike share opportunities, plus a recommended bike path through Crissy Field. For more information, visit the Presidio online.

If you are planning to stay in San Francisco, there are plenty of hotels nearby or with views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Sometimes picking the right music or lighting for a dinner date can be daunting, but research suggests you should be focusing on the colour of your napkins too.

A new report examining the relationship between coloured napkins and the flavour of food found that colour is a powerful contributor. The report reveals which colours pair best with which dishes to help give your dinners that extra bit of flavour. Napkin brand Tork partnered with Swedish food stylist and chef, Linda Lundgren, who paired dishes with a range of coloured napkins.

She told trade magazine TheCaterer: "How do you make a strawberry mousse sweeter and richer-tasting? The answer isn't more strawberries or sugar. Instead, try serving the dish with a coral pink napkin. The colour actually increases the perception of sweetness and decreases bitterness, making it perfect for desserts. "

"The experiments found that aqua blue napkins enhance the flavour of eggs and Indian food. This is because it brings out orange and yellow as contrast colours and makes the dishes seem less salty," Ms Lundgren said.

Coral pink helps to decrease the bitterness of dishes like grapefruit and makes meals taste sweeter, while pink or rose red work best with desserts.

Mustard yellow helps to improve the flavour of green dish such as sprouts and salads, as well as tart flavours including fish and sea food. Anthracite grey helps to contrast the tones of lighter coloured table settings and meals, meaning grey napkins give Mediterranean food a richer taste.

(1) What colour napkins would you choose if your guest comes from India? A. Yellow. B. Blue. C. Pink. D. Grey.
(2) Which one is not the coloured napkins' function? A. To make you not hungry. B. To enhance the flavour of eggs. C. To decrease the perception of bitterness. D. To increase the perception of sweetness.
(3) The passage mainly tells us the relationship between       . A. coloured napkins and food B. music and food C. lighting and food D. environment and food

A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night's sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off(打瞌睡)—if it is milked from a cow at night.

Researchers have discovered that "night milk" contains more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety(焦虑). The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder(奶粉) made from cows milked both during the day and at night. Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.

Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer. While the effect of cow milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who have trouble falling asleep at night.

Previous studies have also showed that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.
