Weather has a great influence(影响) on people. It influences people's health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.

In August, it is very hot in the southern part of the United States. People there may have heart disease and other kinds of health problems during the month. In the northeast and middle west, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these places may have heart diseases in February or March.

The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1982 study by scientists, the IQ scores of students were very high during a storm, but after the storm their IQ scores were lower than the usual level (水平). So storms can increase (提高) intelligence. But very hot weather can lower it. Students in the United States often do badly in exams in the hot months of a year.

Weather also has a strong influence on people's feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months and they may feel unhappy during cold weather. In hot summer weather, on the other hand, fat people may feel unhappy. The summer heat may make them exhausted and angry.

Are you feeling sick, sad, tired or very intelligent today? The weather may be the cause.

Copenhagen(哥本哈根) is a city full of fairy tales (童话故事). If you want to explore it, you have to spend a long time and walk slower to enjoy yourself. Copenhagen was the first city to have a street for walkers only. The city has less traffic noise and pollution than any other European capital.

Walking along the river banks, you'll see the Amalienborg Palace first. The king's family is living there.

Churches and castles show us the original(最初的)city. Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in 1445. But fires in 1728 and 1795 completely destroyed(摧毁)the old wooden buildings. Much of what we see today dates back to (追溯到)the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Keep going, and you'll see the Christiansborg Palace. The town of Copenhagen began there. Then you will see Nyhavn (尼哈芬), a waterway, which was dug in 1673. When you see it, you'll understand why Hans Christian Andersen made this beautiful waterway his home. Nyhave is a peaceful and wonderful place. You'll usually see some rich people walk along here.

If you walk there, you can enjoy the old trees, the colourful lights and the beautiful gardens. You might feel as if you were in a fairy tale.

I think it is safe to say that snakes are not popular among most people. It would be hard to find a person who is neutral(中立的) ,or simply doesn't care one way or the other. What I wonder is why something even without legs causes such great fear.

Snakes are quite useful, but that doesn't seem to matter. Snakes help control the population of mice. Without snakes, perhaps we would find mice everywhere. Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake.

The poison argument(毒性的争论) is a strong one. Some snakes are poisonous, and this causes people's death. However, the poisonous snakes are only a small number. We can't say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones.

And what do we' do with the people who really like snakes? They like snakes even more strongly than we dislike them. These people learn about them, find them out, and watch them carefully. Why? The only reason I can think of is that these people are open-minded. They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend.

Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life. They would prefer to be left alone, and that is what we should do. If you're lucky, you might not run across more than a few of them in a lifetime. That would be fine with most of us.

(1) How does the writer describe the appearance of snakes? A. Something even without legs. B. Something not popular among people. C. A person who is neutral. D. A person who cares about nothing.
(2) People who really like snakes are open-minded because they _______________. A. are able to put aside differences B. think all the snakes are poisonous C. are able to deal with poisonous snakes D. take part in the poison argument
(3) The last paragraph seems to tell us that the writer _______________. A. dislikes snakes B. has the best luck C. loves snakes D. prefers to be left alone
