Jakub and Fernando are from France. They are learning Chinese in Guangzhou. Every weekend they would like to visit some places of interest nearby. Lingnan culture is quite attractive (有吸引力的) for them.

Last week they went to Nanshe. It is a beautiful village on the modern side of Dongguan. It's reported that Nanshe has actually been awarded as one of China's most beautiful villages. The buildings were built in the Song Dynasty, but they are well kept. Nowadays it is still a good living place for a lot of people.

They saw many colorful dolls called "Chashan dolls". Chashan dolls are an intangible cultural Heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Guangdong. They are made of earth and painted in different colors.Most of them are based on historical characters and fairy stories,such as"Make friends in Taoyuan","Niulang and Zhinv" and "Four brothers(Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun)". Jakub was surprised to see the dolls and he thought they were lovely. He has never seen dolls like these anywhere else in the world. What perfect gifts! He bought a few for his mother. If you get tired of giving common gifts to people, this is a good idea. Quite special!

Jakub and Fernando also watched another traditional performance—Kylin Dance. People of Dongguan celebrate a lot of festivals all year round in order to get much happiness, and Kylin Dance is one of these events. It is very traditional. It shows people's best wishes and hopes for good luck.

They learn more about China from the visit. How excited they are!

(1) Where is Nanshe?
(2) What does Jakub think about the dolls?
(3) Who did Jakub buy the dolls for?

What does taking the train mean to you? Perhaps it's just a way of getting to your destination(目的地). In fact, the train itself can be part of the fun.

On March 28th, China's first panda-themed tourist train left Chengdu in Sichuan for Zunyi in Guizhou. It soon became the talk of China with its special design and comfortable service.

It's inside and outside are decorated with giant panda pictures. Attendants(乘务员) carry panda toys and passengers can try panda-shaped food and Sichuan snacks. Some people call it a mobile star hotel because it has a bar, karaoke room, dance hall, and mahjong(麻将) room.

This luxury(高档的) service is one aspect that has attracted travelers. But train travel interests people for other reasons.

In the fast-paced times we live in, train travel is a good way to slow down. It gives you time and space to read, sleep, chat with friends, or simply do nothing but watch the changing scenery outside.

One surprising thing is that you might meet new people. Sheng Yawei, 26, once took the longest railway in the world—the Trans-Siberian Railway in the world. Sheng met a Russian student and they became friends. "I also met a cute boy who gave me melon seeds(瓜子). Though we didn't understand each other's language, it made me feel nice."

(2) Why did the panda-themed tourist train become the talk of China?
(3) What food does this train provide for passengers?
(4) What is a surprising thing about the train travel?
